Once Upon A Time 2x20

Overall: 7/10

+VE
Hook’s alliance with Tamara and Greg
While Tamara and Greg use science and strategies to take down those with magic, Hook is seen to rely on his emotion and rash thinking. It will be fascinating to see the development of their alliance and whether Hook will be betrayed again. (Probably yeah)

Leaving Regina alone
The good guys are finally making some rather cruel decision which cause us to feel even more sympathetic towards Regina. And that is always welcomed.
This also hints at Regina’s prediction, that Mary Margaret will destroy her own family. After all, we all know that Henry still loves         Regina, no matter how much of a douche he has been to her.

Greater insight on Magic Here we are given a greater insight at how magic actually works in OUAT world. Shapeshifting is deemed a complex spell that took ‘months to learn’. Lead us to wonder how many other spells are that complex and how long did Regina took to learn them all.

Emma’s suspicion of Tamara
Need I say more? This feels like the beginning of an epic girl fight and that is always something worth looking forward to.

Project Praying Mantis
Emma and Henry working together again remind us of a superhero and her child sidekick and bring comedic relief to the show while showing those two still have a rather good relationship despite the arguments they’ve had.

Regina getting captured
It’s always nice to see someone really powerful weakened and reduced to a prisoner. Though it’s annoying to see her not able to kill her captors, it makes it all the more exciting when she actually does.
It is also great to see that Regina still maintain her composure and confidence in such a situation.

The Flashback
While it does give a greater insight on how magic works, it provides almost nothing more. Sure it makes us even more sympathetic towards Regina and makes the Evil Queen less evil and more humane, I hardly think it’s necessary. We are already sympathetic towards Regina and we already know how she becomes evil. The flashback merely emphasizes on what’s already there and with only two more episode left before the season finale, I honestly think the writers should develop on something else that requires development. (Belle’s alter ego Lizzie, Tamara and Greg, etc)

Everybody against Emma
Frankly, it feels like a repeat of last season. Mary Margaret and Neil not believing Emma seems like an unneeded obstacle Emma needs to cross on her journey to unveiling Tamara’s true colours. I’m not saying it would be better for everybody to be against Tamara but when the clues are right there, it’s hard to believe they are that naïve.

The Trigger
I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels this is rather nonsensical. All of a sudden, Regina revealed a button that lay deep inside Storybrooke’s favourite hideout (The Library) that can be pushed to destroy the whole of Storybrooke. Why does such a trigger exist in the first place? If Rumplestiltskin is determined to locate his son, why would he include the trigger in the curse?
I find it too convenient for Regina to have such a powerful weapon at this point of the season. Violent destruction seems to be the solution to almost every threat Storybrooke faced. (Remember when they were about to destroy the well in fear of Cora?)

Well...
Lana Parilla deserved an Emmy for her performance. She portrayed a complex character beautifully, carefully balancing the good and evil of Regina and exposing the human inside an otherwise cruel ‘magical creature’. She is detailed in her performance, giving little tweaks in her facial expression that provide a sneak peek of Regina’s vulnerability while maintaining her powerful and confident exterior. Kudos to her for giving such a memorable and wonderful performance.

There's another monster hidden deep below Storybrooke's library, another one of Regina's magical friends. My first thought is Maleficient, but she had been killed by Emma, hasn't she?

One thing about OUAT is that each person/group have their own agenda and it’s not a simple good Vs evil and that makes the show much more interesting and realistic. With only 2 more episodes left in the season, I’m both excited to see how everything culminates and dreading the day when the season does end.
